- The Police Officer works for the U.S. Army Installation Management Command at White Sands Missile Range, for the Directorate of Emergency Services, Police/Provost Marshall Division.
- The incumbent enforces military, federal, state and county criminal laws, procedures, orders, directives, regulations and ordnances.
- Ensures against unauthorized entry of individuals into restricted areas. Investigates traffic accidents and issue citations.
- Takes charge of crime and accident scenes.
- Pursues, apprehends, and arrests persons fleeing from crime scenes. Provides protection of human lives, civil rights, and property.
- Identifies and apprehends violators based on eyewitness accounts or personal observations.
- Interrogates suspects; detains witnesses and suspects.
- Analyzes facts to identify suspects and develop case information for use in filing complaints ringing suspects to trial.
- Enforces traffic laws; investigates traffic accidents; and takes statements from principals and witnesses; directs traffic and controls the movement of vehicles and pedestrians; issues citations for speeding and parking violations.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

- Incumbent will be required to perform a weapons qualification test commensurate with assigned duties and responsibilities.

- Must successfully complete Law Enforcement Academy.
- This position requires possession of a valid state driver's license.
- Must wear a uniform while on duty.

(Note: Successful completion of a Federal, State, county, or municipal police academy or comparable training course which included at least 40 classroom hours of instruction in police department procedures and methods, and local law and regulations, may be substituted for three months of specialized experience.) This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). Education: Four years of education above the high school level in an accredited school leading to a bachelor's degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position, such as Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Criminology, and General Law field(s) of study. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 120. Add the two percentages.
